Portuguese Slang by Street Talk Savvy. Portugal was the first colonial power to venture out and colonise new territories. Today the main countries that speak Portuguese are the mother country Portugal and Brazil, which are considerably different from each other. Other countries that speak Portuguese are Angola, Cabo Verde, Mozambique, Sao Tome e Principe etc. Brazilians will say that the Portuguese “sheesh’ a lot meaning that they have a lot of ‘sh’ sound in their pronunciation.

Unlike British and American English there is a vaster differnce between Portugal and Brazil in pronunciation. In Brazil nasalisation of words is a lot stronger, and most parts of Brazil pronounce pronounce “d’s” and “t’s” at the end of words or syllable as djyuh and tchyuh. So ‘presidente’ would then be pronounced as ‘presidenchih’. Angola as a general rule has adopted a pronunciation similar to that of Portugal.

Portuguese dialects exist in the countries mentioned above.
